Texas Holdem Poker Strategy

Even though the rules of this game are very simple and it should only take a short time for you to get the hang of it, mastering the skill behind the game can take a lifetime. Real poker champions have spent countless hours playing and studying the game. The following is a quick outline of some tips and strategies that you may want to follow in order to improve your game and your chances of taking home the pot.

  1. Be sure that if you decide to stay in the game to see the turn or the river that you have a strong hand or a high percentage of drawing of good hand. At this point, 5 of the 7 cards will be showing and you should have a good idea of what your hand will look like and how many outs you will have.

  2. A good kicker can make the difference.

  3. Two high cards, such as an Ace and King are a great combination for your starting hand. However if on the flop, you don’t make a pair, your hand is no longer as strong as it was and playing aggressively at this point may be dangerous.

  4. Being in the last acting position is a great advantage in poker. Hands that you would normally fold when sitting in another position might to be hands for you to consider raising with in this position.

  5. Fold early. If your hand is not looking like it will pay off, it is better to get out of the round earlier on in the game, it’ll cost you less and you’ll have more money to raise with when you get that winning combination.

  6. Be patient, learn your odds, study your opponents and understand the advantages of positions. You will notice greater success if all these aspects become a regular element to your game.
